My dream job is to write and illustrate picture books for
kids...and to get paid for it! To that end, I have written and
made sketch dummies for several stories. Below are a
couple of pages from my latest finished sketch dummy,
"Scrumptious Yum-o-licious Pie." The gorilla sketch is a
part of a character study for the dummy I'm currently at
work on, "Horace and Amelia."
"Scrumptious Yum-o-licious Pie"
Six-year-old Emma Kate is excited about spending her birthday at Grandma
and Grandpa's house. Grandma is going to make spaghetti with meatballs,
and Grandpa will bake a brand new kind of pie: Scrumptious Yum-o-licious
Pie. What could possibly go in such a pie? Emma Kate has visions of cotton
candy and ice cream, but Grandpa has other things in mind...clam juice and
sardines, for a start! Will Grandpa's pie be a complete disaster, or does he
have a birthday trick up his sleeve? The answer is a gentle twist on the
age-old truism "to each his own."
"Horace and Amelia"
Horace and Amelia are unlikely friends.
Horace is a neat, punctual, well-to-do gorilla;
Amelia is a messy, rambunctious monkey.
This story follows their (mis)adventures at the
symphony as they learn about the true
meaning of friendship.
